Quick Hits on Sunday’s Action

Published by rreillycp3 at 9:43 pm under General Fantasy Sports, Uncategorized Edit This

Okay, a full report tomorrow on all of Sunday’s football action and what it means for your teams in the coming weeks.

First, I want to break rank and talk about baseball for one moment, as some teams are still in their races and some teams are even in playoffs, if they’re in a head to head league. This is certainly the time of year, even if you’re in a keeper league, that if you’ve got guys on your bench that are injured, you should fully consider dropping them if there is someone available in free agency that can help you down the home stretch. For instance, Gary Sheffield hasn’t had a terrific season, but he is available in many leauges, has had a decen month in the power numbers (4-HR, 15-RBI), and will be playing in Texas this week. Texas cannot pitch. Detroit’s offense is loaded. If you need an instant boost in power numbers, drop some dead weight on your bench and go for the gold!

Pedro could have big numbers tomorrow night.

He’s back and could put up big numbers against the Nat’s.

Additionally, if you ARE in the playoffs of a head-to-head league, one tip I can offer you is that you might try streaming pitchers at this point. Think about it, you’ve got some guys on your bench (say, Ubaldo Jiminez, Mike Mussina, and/or some middle relievers) that aren’t guys you’re going to keep and it isn’t going to break your heart if someone picks them up on the waiver wire. If you see a pitching matchup you like, say Pedro vs. the mighty Nationals tomorrow night, you can probably pick up a win, 5 or more K’s, and  4 earned runs or less. Wins and K’s cannot be understimated in a head-to-head playoff. If it gets towards the end of the week and you’re losing ALL of your pitching categories, then you absolutely MUST stream pitchers…. as many as you can so that you can rack up those K and Win numbers. Then, just hope your hitters are doing their job!

So, I know you want to talk about football.  We’ll discuss more tomorrow.  Right now, I want to leave you with a list of players that you absolutely MUST pick up right now if they are still in your free agent pile.  I picked up a few of these today in my leagues, so please don’t laugh, thinking to yourself, “This guy’s an idiot if he thinks that guy isn’t picked up yet”.  Believe me, it happens.  People slip through the cracks and you need to be there to scoop them up.

CHRIS JOHNSON TENNESSEE TITANS TRAINING CAMP

Top 30 pick next year?  I think so.

PICK THESE GUYS UP TONIGHT:

1.  Chris Johnson - RB - TITANS - Big points again today.  Kerry Collins actually helps stretch the field, and has a nice touch to get the ball to the RB’s, which is convenient because Johnson once again had big reception numbers this week.  This guy will be a 3rd round pick next year.  Get him now.

2.  Aaron Rodgers - QB - Green Bay - In 8 team leagues, he’s probably available and he shouldn’t be.  Look at the points he’s put up so far.  Look at the completion percentage, the touchdowns, the 1 INT, and the yardage.  He’s for real.  He’s actually playing at a higher pace that Favre was this time last year.

3.  Green Bay’s Defense - They won’t play Detroit every week, but they score points regularly.

4.  Sammy Morris - RB - New England.  Maroney gets the bulk of the touches, but Morris gets the TD’s.  New England isn’t going to throw 50 TD’s this year, but they are going to get their scores somehow.  Sammy’s going to produce.

5.  Eddie Royal - WR - Denver.  Forget the big first week.  Well, who can forget that kind of debut, but, he still got a TD and a two-point conversion in a game where Brandon Marshall made his return (and caught a team-record for passes in a game).
